"Spatial Data for Preparedness: why geography matters"
Marilyn Ruiz is a geographer at the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois. She works in the area of disease ecology and epidemiology, and her focus is on using geographic techniques to help explain spatial dynamics of disease transmission. She has worked with local health departments to implement geographic technology for surveillance and preparedness. She has a PhD in Geography from the University of Florida and prior to coming to the U of I, held positions at the Florida State University in Tallahassee and the Construction Engineering Research Lab in Champaign. She has been working at the College of Veterinary Medicine since 2001.
