Dr. Palinkas

Dr. Palinkas received his bachelor's degree in Biology from William Paterson University in 1973 and then attended the New Jersey Medical School in Newark, New Jersey, with graduation in 1977. He remained in Newark for his residency and for a year of infectious disease fellowship at the New Jersey Medical School affiliated hospitals, becoming board certified in internal medicine in l982.

He joined the New Jersey Medical School faculty in 1982 and he remained there through July of 1993. While at the New Jersey Medical School, Dr. Palinkas had various appointments, including course director for physical diagnosis, the internal medicine clerkship and the emergency medicine clerkship. In addition, Dr. Palinkas developed New Jersey's first urban paramedic program as the Medical Director for Newark's paramedics, and he developed several of New Jersey's first AIDS treatment programs. His clinical duties at the medical school included infectious disease practice, critical care and general internal medicine. He served as vice chairman of internal medicine for ambulatory services for several years.

Dr. Palinkas joined the Geisinger Clinic in July of 1993 as the Internal Medicine Residency Program Director and as Associate Chairman of Medicine. Practice duties at Geisinger included primary care and hospitalist service. While at the Geisinger Clinic, Dr. Palinkas began a free outreach clinic serving the indigent workers of the region.

Dr. Palinkas began service as Director of the University of Illinois' McKinley Health Center in July of 2001.
